Spring of 2701
Defrosting
Clara exhales into the air and watches her breath mist and float away in front of her. Her wool cloak wrapped around her petite body and the hood covered her hair and face in shadow. Perfectly covering the ripped and scars on the left side of her face. The jabberwhelp's claws and rot had left it's mark on her. The healers had said they weren't sure if they could ever return her eye to normal.
Not exactly how she planned on spending her first venture out of Caer Glaem. But hell, she'll taking anything after being cooped up in the hospital for weeks. She'd take most miserable things over being trapped in the hospital for weeks. Plus, defrosting? She could do that. Sounds like something she and the Doctor might do anyway. Hence why she called him out here. Or at least she tried to. Sending Tyalion had worked before but it definitely wasn't as reliable as the lockets. But now... after everything with the war, she just didn't feel right sending messages to him where any eyes of the court could be watching.
So here she was at the meeting place. A spring, possibly magic, in the mountains. She could see the steam in the far distance, floating up to the stars. A grin spread across her face. It had been only a few days since smiling stopped hurting. What better to melt the snow than a hot spring in the winter? It seemed clever enough to her. Perhaps they could spread the water around the land or find some magic spell to make it overflow. Either way, it was perfect, quiet, interesting, and isolated.
Now she just had to wait.
pretend i didn't take ages upon ages to get this.
With the Jabberwhelp and everything else— it's been rough, rough enough that even he has a bit of trouble actually caring too much about anyone else. If the people here are going to insist on fighting or being dragged into the monarch's manipulations, then perhaps they deserve what happens to them even if it's bad.
But then Tyalion had come and though he still dislikes that infernal creature, he's still Clara's. He plans to tell her that there's a reason she's his companion and to be entirely honest, having the intelligence not to use the lockets is that reason. While he might be willing to let idiots suffer the consequences of their actions he's not willing to let them freeze to death. Besides, most beings aren't quite bred for this sort of weather regularly. Even he had his limits.
It had been of an adventure ( and not quite the good kind ) trying to find the place Clara had mentioned. A hot spring— depending on the particulars could be excellent in doing the trick with defrosting things. There was the potential of it scalding or burning a few things, but— that's just a risk one had to take when things were freezing like this. Sad, but regrettably true.
When the Doctor sees Clara he sees her back first. Most people would apologize for potentially making her wait, but the Doctor's never been most people. Instead he just moves to stand next to her, tugging his own cloak around his shoulder before looking at her. ]
Don't ask how I managed to get here it was— [ He notices her eye. ] Your eye. [ That's not how he meant to end that sentence but he just barrels on, tossing away the original line of talking. ] What happened?
i won't say a word!
It's fine. It's healed now.
[As in it no longer causes her pain anyway. Healed as in working as it should isn't quite the same. But she doesn't want to get into that. Or the rest of the mess of injuries she suffered on her left arm.
Instinctively, she pulls it closer to herself. As if to protect herself from his scrutinizing gaze.]
It was the Jabberwhelp. When it attacked Caer Glaem.

march-ish?
and with the help of her last boon from all those months ago, she's trying to tap into that power. why here at the gallery? because this is where she feels safest. surrounded by art and people who might love it as much as she does. even when she breaks her focus and opens her eyes, she's still surrounded by color, bright energy. even the darker paintings hold a positivity, they hold the passion of the artist.
so yeah, basically - all Oracle-y mumbojumbo aside, she just feels good when she's here. confident. which is what she needs to try and mentally track down her friends. the first "sweep" of her mind doesn't go far, but nothing feels familiar, not at first. she tries again and again, trying to feel for the mental impression of Nico, or Leo. find their fate line and follow it until she can just sort of feel them there, know that they're okay.
she's not, however, anticipating to find someone closer. not someone familiar on a personal level, but a sort of squiggly fate-connected aura. ( all very official Oracle terms there, yes ). her eyes blink open, like she's expecting to find someone standing right in front of her, but she knows it could be anyone visiting the gallery. or maybe just like near it. she can't tell. all she knows is that she's super curious, and maybe she'll just like
nudge at that mind again a couple times. passively. it won't feel like when a vision's about to take hold and knock you out, but a nudge at that part of them, sure. a sense of familiarity. an acknowledgment. a hey, sup? ]

Plus, the gallery is relaxing. Mostly only other people of her court stop by and so there's never any concern for conflict. It feels like a small safe heaven where she can just sit and be alone with her thoughts.
Though this time, she catches the eye of another girl in the room and gives her a brief nod. They've never spoken but she assumes she's another member of the Seelie court.]

Hey! [ so cheerful. she's not bouncing off the walls hyper or anything, but she's clearly excited about something ]

[There's a slight inflection in her voice indicating a question and a quirk of the eyebrow. This connection between them is entirely lost on her. She's not a born seer, only growing to be one in this world where she doesn't belong.
So she's completely oblivious to Rachel's cheer.]

but this is totally different, isn't it? ]
I'm Rachel. [ luckily! she's not the type to get caught up on a minor social setback, so. she'll just roll with it. ] Are you a painter too? I just noticed you're actually taking time to read the art instead of just walking by and kind of looking at it. You're be surprised how rare that is here.
